Our second stop was at The Porch where we were served a Pignay (Andouille sausage wrapped in Beignet, deep fried, topped with powdered sugar and served with bacon and fig syrup). See related blog posts: Magpie Café and Magpie Café Revisited The Porch While at Magpie Café my daughter was pleased to have a chance to say “hi” to chef and co-owner Ed Roehr with whom she had attended school here in Sacramento. The composition of the dish was both visually appealing and a taste treat. Heather shared information about Magpie Café, Seka Hills Olive Oil, and the Farm-to-Fork/Slow Food movements in Sacramento while we dug in. There we were served a Seasonal Vegetable & Chickpea Hummus Bowl (chickpea hummus, herb salad, seasonal vegetables, toast) with Seka Hills Arbequina Olive Oil. Our first stop was at Magpie Café, located across the street from Fremont Park. We were a small, but very congenial group. Two young women, who had recently moved to Sacramento, joined us. We met Heather, our tour guide and owner of SacTown Bites, at Fremont Park at the appointed time. – All Things Sacramento (from a personal perspective) SacTown Bites Midtown Tour We were, however, very comfortable as we had dressed appropriately. The day was sunny but at the same time chilly. My #1 parking lot choice was full, but as we proceeded to exit the lot on our way to my #2 choice lo-and-behold there was a metered 2+ hour parking spot that had just become available! Needless to say I was delighted.įrom there the two of us strolled through Midtown on our way to Fremont Park. Midtown parking can often be a challenge, and it never hurts to allow some extra time. I planned to park in a parking lot near the end point of the tour, but we left a bit early in case Plan B was necessary. SacTown Bites had sent an e-mail a few days in advance of the tour with helpful information that included options on where to park. SacTown Bites is a fairly new woman-owned business that started operation in the second half of 2019. Three alcoholic beverages are included in the price of the VIP tickets. On the last day of my week-long visit with my daughter (and my staycation) I had something special planned! I had purchased two VIP tickets for the three-hour SacTown Bites Farm-to-Table Midtown Tour (SacTown Bites Midtown Tour), a walking tour around Midtown.
